Text-to-Speech Revolution: How AI is Changing Content Creation
Discover how text-to-speech technology is revolutionizing content marketing, my experiment with ElevenLabs vs Google TTS, and practical ways to extend your reach with AI-generated audio.
Hey there!
You asked for it, so here is the start.
In my last newsletter, I asked what you wanted me to write about. The clear winner was “Using AI in marketing.” So today, I’m diving into something that’s been on my mind for weeks:
text-to-speech technology (TTS)
and how it’s quietly revolutionizing the way we create content.
But first, let me tell you about my little experiment.
The Great Voice Test
Last week, I decided to test something. I took one of my LinkedIn newsletters and fed it into different text-to-speech services. Why? Because I’m looking for ways to repurpose content without losing the human touch.
Everyone online keeps saying ElevenLabs is the king of TTS. Reddit loves it. ChatGPT recommends it. Even the “experts” swear by it.
So I tried it first. The result? Pretty good. You can actually describe the tonality and speed in brackets, which is neat. But then I thought, “What if I’m missing something?”
I decided to test Google’s TTS through their AI Studio. And honestly? I was blown away.
Here’s what I discovered:
while ElevenLabs has the reputation, Google’s TTS delivered something that sounded more natural for my content. The intonation felt right. The pacing was spot on. It didn’t sound like a robot trying to be human.
Why This Matters for Your Marketing
Think about it. Audio content is everywhere now. Podcasts, social media stories, LinkedIn video posts, YouTube content. But creating voice content has always been a bottleneck.
You either spend hours recording and re-recording, or you avoid audio content altogether.
But what if you could turn any piece of your written content into professional-sounding audio in minutes?
That’s not science fiction. That’s today.
I’m now thinking of using TTS to:
- Create audio versions of my newsletters
- Generate voiceovers for quick social media videos
- Repurpose newsletters into audio content for different platforms
The Real Competition
The TTS landscape is more competitive than most people realize. While ElevenLabs gets all the attention, here’s what I found:
ElevenLabs: Great for emotional range and voice cloning. You can create custom voices and really dial in the personality. But it’s pricier and sometimes the quality can be inconsistent. That is my observation.
Google TTS: More reliable, natural-sounding for straightforward content. Better for business use where you need consistent quality without the bells and whistles.
New players like Cartesia: Faster processing, lower latency. Perfect for real-time applications.
Each has its place. The key is matching the tool to your specific need.
AI in Marketing
Let me be clear: it’s not about replacing human creativity. It’s about amplifying it.
I’m not using TTS to replace my voice.
I’m using it to extend my reach.
To test ideas faster.
To create content I wouldn’t have had time to create otherwise.
Try This Today
Here’s what I want you to do: Take your best piece of written content from the last month. Copy it into Google’s AI Studio (it’s free), on the right select single speaker audio and generate an audio version.
Listen to it. Does it sound like you? Does it capture the essence of your message?
If it does, you just discovered a new content distribution channel. If it doesn’t, you learned something valuable about how your writing translates to speech.
Either way, you win.
The Future Is Audio
We’re moving toward a world where every piece of content can exist in multiple formats. Text, audio, video. The companies that figure out how to repurpose content effectively will have a massive advantage.
But here’s the thing: the technology is just a tool. The real value is in your unique perspective, your experiences, your voice, even if that voice is generated by AI.
What’s your biggest challenge with creating audio content? Time? Technical skills? Not knowing where to start?
Hit reply and let me know. I read every response and I’m always looking for ways to help you solve real problems with AI.
I wanted to share with you what I generated but I had problems with creating channel on YouTube. That’s my task for the next week, I’ll share more details and audio itself.
